We got two siblings that came into the program with no additional clothing except for the clothes on their back. The male only has a undershirt tank top. Their family was homeless and do not have access to any clothing or money to buy clothing. They were living in a campground until they were kicked out for not being able to pay. The campground took all of their things so they had nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Thanks to BackPack Beginnings for letting us bring two refugee moms to the Kids’ Clothing Closet! The moms were able to pick out 10 outfits for their kids (5 kids + 1 on the way!) along with shoes, undergarments, accessories, and personal hygiene items. These resources make all the difference as newcomers adjust to a new culture, language, and city.
While I was assisting a mother loading clothing into her car that she had just received from BackPack Beginnings, the mother began to cry, because it had been so long since her children had such nice clothing to wear to school.

I came to shop for one of my students who was being teased at school for only wearing her brother’s hand-me-down clothes to school. I left BackPack Beginnings’ Clothing Pantry with so much pink for my student!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to shop for my student. She loved everything that we picked out for her. Her smile was so big it was contagious! She really needed new clothes and it has really given her a new found confidence. Today she is wearing the jacket and one of the tops. Thank you for not just providing clothes but for keeping in mind the trends of middle schoolers as you collect clothes. I appreciate your organization and the time, passion, and commitment you bring to it.
