The Gift of Choice

Dear Friends,

2022 has been a transformational year for BackPack Beginnings (BPB)– a move to a larger warehouse, the addition of household goods and baby accessories/equipment to our programming, and the launch of our new Family Market. The BPB Family Market is a dignity of choice, “one-stop” shopping experience where parents and children select their basic needs at no cost in a retail-like, welcoming environment. Families have access to expanded food choices such as frozen foods, fresh produce, and dairy items as well as resources such as hygiene products, diapers, baby accessories, school supplies, and even childhood joys such as toys, books, and sports equipment! The Family Market is just one addition to the 11 other programs that continue to make up our organization.

Our Family Market guests’ feedback: “The number of blessings that this opportunity has given my family is immeasurable.” • “This was a wonderful experience, and our family was provided for in ways that I did not expect. The staff and volunteers were very helpful and caring. They took time to help each of my children with things they needed and things they wanted.”

Our staff’s favorite moments: “Seeing a 9-year-old boy who lives with his mom in an RV be ecstatic to have his very own hairbrush.” • “Watching an Afghani mom smile with delight as she chose a bike for her child.” • “Sitting with a little girl whose eyes lit up when she saw a cover of a book that looked like her!” • “Reassuring a teen mom who was nervous about her upcoming birth.”

Inflation, shipping delays, a decrease in food donations, formula shortages, an influx of refugee families, and other issues affect our operations here at BPB every day. We need your help more than ever before! Our goal for this year’s annual campaign is $250,000. Your support will allow us to provide resources that empower families to experience dignity in hard times. Please join us in giving the gift of choice to local families as we continue to be a community that cares for its children.

Thank you for your support,

Parker White, Founder/Executive Director
