Fresh Foods = Fresh Minds. Fresh fruits and vegetables improve children’s nutrition, help prevent childhood obesity and may improve school performance. That’s why we started our Fresh Food Initiative to bring fresh produce to children in need. We’ve distributed 92,320 lbs and counting.

The Need
  • Guilford County has 24 food deserts, 17 in Greensboro. A food desert is a geographic area where affordable, nutritious and fresh food is hard to obtain, particularly for those without access to an automobile.
  • Over 49,000 children qualify for free or reduced price meal programs in Guilford County Schools.
  • 17% of people in Guilford County are food insecure.
  • 1 in 4 children in Guilford County face hunger every day.
  • Hungry children incur delays in their physical, intellectual and emotional development.
Our Approach
  • BPB provides schools with fresh produce, including fruits and vegetables, to ensure children in need have access to fresh food.
  • BPB partners with local fresh food vendors including The Produce Box, community gardens, and others to bring seasonal fresh produce to school food pantries.
  • Our organization is 95% volunteer run. The fresh food is delivered weekly to our schools.

We are grateful to have received fresh produce from the following organizations.
