For most students, summer means running around in the sunshine, traveling, going to camp, hanging out with friends, and overindulging in all the great foods that come along with the season. But, for others it means having to worry about having enough food and/or funds available for them to support their needs throughout the summer. A large number of low wage families in Guilford County take advantage of the free to low-cost meals provided to their children on school days. Without this option provided to the children during the summer, many don’t have enough food to keep from being hungry. Affording extra meals for one or more children can be financially straining to those who already struggle to make ends meet.

This year marks our THIRD year providing summer meals to kids across Guilford County. In an effort to keep as many hungry tummies across Guilford County both filled and worry free, we will be providing our food backpack services at multiple locations.

As often in the summertime, there is a decrease in available volunteers so give us shout if you can help!  Read our Summer Feeding Guide to learn how you can get more involved in our food backpack efforts this summer!
