I just love summertime for so many reasons! The birds are singing, the days are longer, school is out, and most of all, fresh fruits and veggies are in abundance! It is no wonder that June is Fresh food month, and here at Backpack Beginning we are embracing it!
As I walk the aisles of the grocery store picking bright red berries and fresh sweet corn for my family, I can easily take for granted how fortunate we are to have these items readily available to us. For so many in Guilford County these items are not so easy to come by. Unfortunately highly processed foods are both cheaper and more convenient, leaving so many children missing out on the amazing nutrition found in both fresh fruits and vegetables.
This is why I am so excited to see BPB executing the Fresh Foods initiative once again this month. We are so grateful for our partnerships with local growers that help us get fresh foods to the tables of so many in our community! It is important that we continue to educate those around us that the best foods out there come straight from the ground… and they are DELICIOUS too!
Be sure to check out our website to learn more about our Fresh Food Initiative and to see how you can help make our community a healthier one!
We NEED More Delivery Volunteers!
Are you available this summer to pick up produce from Greensboro locations and deliver it to our feeding sites? If so, please contact us at freshfood@backpackbeginnings.org. Thank you!
