Back-to-WorkThousands of kids headed off to school this week in Guilford County. Some started the week with new school outfits, new backpacks and lunch bags full of goodies. Others started the day excited because they know they will no longer wake up wondering if they will eat today. The start of school means they know from today through Friday, June 9, 2017 they will get at least two meals per weekday at school.

In the fall of 2016, BackPack Beginnings will be serving over 1,500 children in 31 schools in Guilford County via our Food BackPack Program. We will be serving many more through our Food Pantry Program, based in 14 middle and high schools.  Our new schools for both programs include Peeler Elementary, Sternberger Elementary, Jesse Wharton Elementary, Cornerstone Charter, Shadybrook Elementary, High School Ahead and Christine Joyner Green Education Center.  We anticipate adding more students and schools in January.

In Guilford County, there are over 49,000 students on free or reduced meals. Our goal is to get more and more schools off our waiting list each semester, and we will continue to do that with your support.
