We have had an amazing year and have added a number of new schools, agencies, staff and volunteers to our family. Our move to a larger warehouse this summer went smoothly thanks to the help of Lowe’s which provided many volunteers to help us relocate and build shelves. They even donated a new sign for our building! Our new space is serving us well allowing us to store more inventory as our numbers grow.
We were thrilled to be a recipient of the Jimmie Johnson Helmet of Hope Grant as well as funding from the Wishes By Wyndham Foundation! These grants allowed us to serve 8 additional schools this year. We also formed two new partnerships, The Produce Box which provides us with fresh produce and with A Simple Gesture which collects and delivers non-perishable food to us.
As we continue to strive to meet the needs of more children, these benefactors have helped us immensely. But as always, we are counting on the continued support of those in our community to help. Our quarterly neighborhood food drives, launched in January, have been a great success resulting in many car loads, almost 4,000 pounds of food. Additionally, we have had many supporters hold clothing drives to keep our our clothing pantry stocked.
Many thanks to Allison Plitman, our AmeriCorps VISTA, for putting together our Hunger Curriculum- classroom teaching material to increase awareness of hunger in our community. A big thanks to all of our donors, volunteers, and to all of those who have given us support this year! Here’s to the next 5 years!
